CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
REGAN
A couple of days later, Regan clutched her hands nervously as she stood beside Mo outside Rosa and Paulâs house. Theyâd placed furniture, hung paintings, and displayed decorative pieces throughout the space in what she considered a perfect blend of color and shapes.
Mo patted her back. âNo worries, sweetie. Theyâll love it.â
âI hope so. This is my first time doing a job with you, and I want it to be perfect.â
He squeezed her hand. âI understand, but donât let them see how uncertain you are. Youâre naturally good at this, Regan.â
Paul, Rosa, and Sheena strode up the front walk toward them.
âLetâs see what the two of you have done,â said Rosa. âCanât wait to move in. Five days in a motel are enough for me.â
With a flourish, Regan opened the front door of the house. âPlease come into your beautiful new home.â
Regan and Mo followed the others inside and listened for comments.
âLovely,â gushed Rosa. She clapped her hands and turned to Paul with a smile. âI canât believe itâs ours!â She hugged him hard and then turned to Regan and Mo. âI couldnât have dreamed anything better.â
Regan let out a sigh of relief. While the reds and oranges requested by Rosa would not be her color choices, she and Mo had worked hard to come up with color combinations that were pleasing, contemporary, and yet a little bit old-fashioned like Rosa and Paul had requested.
Sheena gave her a hug. âPerfect for them,â she whispered. âCanât wait until you and Mo can do a house for me.â
Regan grinned, pleased and worried at the same time. It was one thing to work for an understanding, appreciative family. It would be another thing entirely to work for strangers like Mo wanted her to do in the future.
After the group had toured the house, Mo spoke to Rosa. âAs long as youâre satisfied with the results, weâll get together for a final review of everything tomorrow. What time would you like to meet?â
âTomorrow afternoon,â said Rosa. âThat will give me time to get the last of our things settled. And please have several business cards ready. Iâm sure Iâll be able to hand some out for you.â
Reganâs heart warmed at Rosaâs generosity. Rosa wasnât her mother-in-law, but Rosa felt like family to her.
Mo signaled her, and they left the house together. âThanks so much. We did a good job together. Youâve certainly earned a percentage of my fee.â
Regan shook her head. âNo, consider it the fee for learning about the business from you.â
âYouâve earned it, Regan. Iâll take care of it,â he said, giving her a broad grin. âIn the meantime, have fun tonight with Chip. Juan and I are going into Tampa.â He wiggled his eyebrows. âDinner and dancing.â
Regan laughed. Sheâd met Juan Cardoza and thought he was as cute as Mo.
###
Waiting for Chip Carson to pick her up for a date, Regan paced back and forth across the carpet in her bedroom. Sheâd been attracted to Chip from their first meeting, during which heâd ignored her.
