CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

REGAN

A couple of days later, Regan clutched her hands nervously as she stood beside Mo outside Rosa and Paul’s house. They’d placed furniture, hung paintings, and displayed decorative pieces throughout the space in what she considered a perfect blend of color and shapes.

Mo patted her back. “No worries, sweetie. They’ll love it.”

“I hope so. This is my first time doing a job with you, and I want it to be perfect.”

He squeezed her hand. “I understand, but don’t let them see how uncertain you are. You’re naturally good at this, Regan.”

Paul, Rosa, and Sheena strode up the front walk toward them.

“Let’s see what the two of you have done,” said Rosa. “Can’t wait to move in. Five days in a motel are enough for me.”

With a flourish, Regan opened the front door of the house. “Please come into your beautiful new home.”

Regan and Mo followed the others inside and listened for comments.

“Lovely,” gushed Rosa. She clapped her hands and turned to Paul with a smile. “I can’t believe it’s ours!” She hugged him hard and then turned to Regan and Mo. “I couldn’t have dreamed anything better.”

Regan let out a sigh of relief. While the reds and oranges requested by Rosa would not be her color choices, she and Mo had worked hard to come up with color combinations that were pleasing, contemporary, and yet a little bit old-fashioned like Rosa and Paul had requested.

Sheena gave her a hug. “Perfect for them,” she whispered. “Can’t wait until you and Mo can do a house for me.”

Regan grinned, pleased and worried at the same time. It was one thing to work for an understanding, appreciative family. It would be another thing entirely to work for strangers like Mo wanted her to do in the future.

After the group had toured the house, Mo spoke to Rosa. “As long as you’re satisfied with the results, we’ll get together for a final review of everything tomorrow. What time would you like to meet?”

“Tomorrow afternoon,” said Rosa. “That will give me time to get the last of our things settled. And please have several business cards ready. I’m sure I’ll be able to hand some out for you.”

Regan’s heart warmed at Rosa’s generosity. Rosa wasn’t her mother-in-law, but Rosa felt like family to her.

Mo signaled her, and they left the house together. “Thanks so much. We did a good job together. You’ve certainly earned a percentage of my fee.”

Regan shook her head. “No, consider it the fee for learning about the business from you.”

“You’ve earned it, Regan. I’ll take care of it,” he said, giving her a broad grin. “In the meantime, have fun tonight with Chip. Juan and I are going into Tampa.” He wiggled his eyebrows. “Dinner and dancing.”

Regan laughed. She’d met Juan Cardoza and thought he was as cute as Mo.

###

Waiting for Chip Carson to pick her up for a date, Regan paced back and forth across the carpet in her bedroom. She’d been attracted to Chip from their first meeting, during which he’d ignored her.
